When “ber” month comes in the
year, you could smell that Christmas is around the corner. The months pass by
so fast that you could barely have enough time to buy Christmas presents.
Christmas rush is everywhere and the “Sale”
word posted in every shops/malls.
When I was young, I am excited for Christmas because I would have a new
clothes, I will receive “aguinaldos”
from my “ninongs” and “ninangs”, get a lot of gifts from my
family and relatives, I could eat Queso
de Bola and some special delicacies prepared only during this season, it is
school break, people are nice to me…. haaaa, there seems to be an endless
reason why I love Christmas season.
But as I grew up, I realized that it is not all that. All the giving, sharing
and receiving are just an expression of love of people that surrounds me. Family
gathering became more important, eating together and catching up on the things happened
the whole year. Gifts become secondary, it is no longer the gift that is
important but the love and thought that the person is putting on that gift that
matters. It also doesn’t matter what special food that is in the table as long
as it is being enjoyed together with my loved ones. The cheers and joy of being
together are enough to make the Christmas spirit.
And now as a Christian, I realized that God gave the greatest gift of
all, when He sent His only Son to die on the cross for us to be saved, to have
an eternal life through His Son Jesus Christ. God love us so much that He wants
us all to be saved. He wants us to be with Him, where we belong. But it is also
our choice if we want to spend the rest of eternity with Him.
Now, I looked at Christmas with gratitude to God the Father and His Son Jesus
who gave me the gift of life (salvation); the gift of family, brethren’s and
friends surrounding me; the love, joy, peace, grace, mercy, goodness, good
health and generosity He is unconditionally showering me and my loved ones every
single day, are far more important than any physical gifts I may receive this
season…
As Christian, everyday should be a Christmas day, spreading love, joy, peace,
kindness, goodness, forgiveness to everyone not only to our loved ones.
A Blessed Christmas to all!
God bless us more!
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one
and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal
life.” - John 3:16
