My "masterpiece" |
During my school
days, we were taught many arts and crafts such as cross stitching, drawing,
coloring, sewing and many other more. But we were not taught to do crochet.
Recently, we
joined the Social and Sports ministry in our church and I was engaged in arts
and crafts group. Our first group activity will be crochet. I do not have any
idea how to do it. Nobody from the members even knows how to do it, but they
suggested watching youtube videos for tutorials. And amazing as it is, we were
able to finish simple crochet coasters. Yehey!
Crochet is fun
and addictive especially when you are in the group of enthusiastic people, you
wouldn’t notice the time you spent while doing it. You will not feel any
boredom as what I have thought in the beginning. You will also feel the excitement when you see
that you are accomplishing something from just yarn and hook – from nothing
into something.
By the way,
crochet is the English term for “gantsilyo”. Some people are not familiar with
the tagalog term so I just mentioned it here.
At first we don’t
have any teachers but they suddenly emerged as the group meeting continues. And
to keep the group motivated, we have set a goal to give away a pair of coaster for
mommies in the upcoming Mother’s day. Although I didn’t have a chance to finish
our target, I think I have to take overtime.
I planned on
learning other products that can be used and maybe serve as a gift for family
and friends because sometimes I run out of ideas on what to give to them. So
this can be an alternative for giving gifts which is affordable and they know
that you put effort in making it. J
They said that
crochet is for old people only, I used to think the same way but it changed my
perception once I started doing it. It is also for adults and children that
will challenge and develop their creativity.
I praise God that
I was able to learn a new skill while gaining another set of friends sharing
the same passion J
What skills will
you try to develop? As long as we are alive, learning should be continuous.
God bless us more
J
