My first leisure trip was in Singapore in
2012 for 3 days and 2 nights initially, but we stay for 4 days and 3 nights due
to flight delays. Anyway, we were compensated for the inconvenience although we
were dying to go home to Philippines and tell our stories.
On our second day, we were able
to go to Universal Studios located within Resorts World Sentosa in Sentosa
Island.
I was so amazed when I saw the
rotating globe with words “Universal Studios” in it. It was like a dream come
true. I haven’t been in any themed park before like this one so I was so happy.
The
park consists of seven themed zones which surround a lagoon. Each zone is based
on a blockbuster movie or a television show, featuring their unique
attractions, character appearances, dining and shopping areas. The seven themed
zones are Hollywood, New York, Sci-fi
City, Ancient Egypt, The Lost World, Far Far Away & Madagascar.
Each zone, we tried to experience at least one
ride/show so that we could experience the thrill of each zones.
Hollywood Zone. It is the main
entrance area of the park. Its only attraction, a Broadway-style theatre, is
accompanied by several restaurants and a variety of flagship shops. So we looked
into some shops but we didn’t spend that much time because their souvenir items
are expensive. We were able to take a picture with Poh from Kung Fu Panda, Frankenstein’s Monster, Woody Woodpecker,
Winnie Woodpecker and Betty Boop.
New York Zone. We tried the attraction Live,
Camera, Action! hosted by none other Steven Spielberg. It is a show
that features how filmmaker’s do incredible special effects as an empty sound
stage becomes the setting for a major hurricane about to hit New York
City. Once inside, Steven Spielberg, appearing on a video projection
screen, gives a brief introduction to the use of sound stages and special
effects in movies. We were amazed when we saw how they did it and it was really
fantastic and creative. Waiting time is at least 20 minutes.
Sci-Fi City Zone. We rode the Transformers The Ride: The
Ultimate 3D Battle and I was a little motion
sick (it was good that we haven't eaten our lunch) but I enjoyed it. I don’t
really want to ride a roller coaster but it is better that I tried it than
never at least I felt how it feels to ride that attraction. It appears to be
real and it was fun and exciting. Waiting time is at least 45 minutes.
It is almost
lunch time and we were starving, so we look for a place to eat. We ordered our
meal in Mel's Drive-In restaurant
located in Hollywood zone. While we were eating a group of singers starting to
perform live so we were entertained while eating lunch. Nice.
Madagascar Zone. We rode the Madagascar: A Crate Adventure. It
was a boat ride (I don't want to ride the carousel or I will throw up)
and we were like children, as we experienced this attraction. At the completion
of the ride, Alex, Marty,
Melman, Gloria, King Julien and
the penguins mascots have a photo shoot
and perform a short dance to the tune of "I like to move it, move it"
(remember King Julien).
Far Far Away Zone. It is inspired by hit Shrek franchise by DreamWorks Animation. The
highlight of the zone is the 40-metre tall Far Far Away Castle which is the
world's first. We tried the Shrek 4D Adventure, it
was a 17-minute 4D film where we experienced a totally-in-your-face fairy
tale adventure to help save Princess Fiona through the miracle of Ogre Vision,
we can see, hear, and feel the action right from our seat. It was a
totally different level of experience. I really adored this
attraction.
The Lost World Zone. This is where we experienced the Jurassic era. We took a picture
of the Dinosaurs replica and rode several rides in that zone. We rode the Canopy Flyer, it is a prehistoric bird's
eye view as you soar over Jurassic Park and I felt that it would be my
first and last (I felt terrible, feels like my stomach is turning upside down).
After that, we watched the attraction in the Waterworld; it was a live water show. Be ready to get wet
as entertainers are spontaneously spraying water; so if
you don’t want to get wet, sit in the benches that
indicate that you don't want to get wet (benches have color code). It was
a nice entertainment and full of fun. The live performance was action packed as
the male and female lead fights the antagonists. The actors were very
good and entertained the crowd with their stunts, awesome explosions
and fireworks. It was sensational. Don’t miss this attraction.
Ancient Egypt Zone. Inspired
by popular series of "The Mummy".
Here we rode the Treasure
Hunters where we drove
our own desert type jeep through an abandoned Egyptian excavation site. I
can say that it was not as exciting as the other attractions, but it was a nice
break.
After seeing
some of the popular and interesting rides and attractions in each zone, we
decided to take more photos before going out of the park.
I thought
that we couldn’t finish all the rides/attraction due to waiting time which I
didn’t expect because it was my first time. But praise God we were able to
enjoy most of the highlighted attractions in Universal Studios.
As a friendly
advice when visiting the park, be ready to wait a little longer for attractions
or rides (especially the popular ones). In order not to waste time, plan your
visit to the park ahead of time and determine which attraction you want to
see/ride first, so that when you finished all your preferred rides/attractions,
you can have extra hours to experience other attractions that each zones are offering.
I hoped that
this might assist you in your plan in visiting the Universal Studios.
God
bless us more J
