FIFTH CURE TO A LEAN PURSE: MAKE THY DWELLING A PROFITABLE INVESTMENT

“Own thy own home.”

No family can fully enjoy life unless they do have a plot of ground wherein children can play in the clean earth and where the wife may raise not only blossoms but good rich herbs to feed her family.

The money lenders gladly consider the desires of men who seek homes and land for their families. Readily you can borrow to pay the brick maker and the builder for such commendable purposes, if you can show a reasonable portion of the necessary sum which you yourself have provided for that purpose.

Then when the house is built, you can pay the money lender with the same regularity as you did pay the landlord. Because each payment will reduce your indebtedness to the money lender, a few years will satisfy his loan.

There are many blessings to the man who owns his own house. And greatly it will reduce his cost of living, making available more his earnings for pleasures and the gratification of his desires.

Like many other OFWs, we have plans of owning our dream home. We try to save money to buy a land and build our house so there is a place where we can stay when we go for vacation or when we decided to go home for good. Filipinos have a notion that if you own a house, you are well-off, well somehow.

My family already owns a house and that is our family home. Every time I come for vacation, I will definitely stay on our house. But I already started to plan of owning my own house and lot, when the time that I need to settle down. That is my reason in buying a lot in a subdivision.

It is better to have a house and lot while you can afford to buy it. Many of my friends spent a lot of money in building and “furnishing” their homes with “state-of-the-art” technology and materials to the point of borrowing money for it. I don’t have anything against furnishing your house with good stuff but is it really needed for the time being? But in the end, it is money wasted especially if you will not stay on it right now. Instead of owing money, they should have saved the money for furnishing later on. My friend regretted buying stuff for her home and having a huge debt. She said she should have invested it in other things than putting it all in their house.

Own a comfortable home.
